A message from the Minister

The role of agriculture is undeniable in carrying out the policy of eradicating poverty and hunger, with an impact on the balance of trade and payments, on industrialization, as well as with an expected impact on investment, job creation and sustainable opportunities, for a shared prosperity.

The agropastoral and fishery sector in the Republic of Congo is and remains, undoubtedly, the engine of growth and economic diversification.

To realize this ambition of transforming agriculture, the Government has drawn up a National Development Plan (PND) 2018-2022, which gives agriculture the driving role of growth through the diversification of the economy.

The estimated investment needs of this ambition are around 1139 billion FCFA, or about 2 billion US dollars.

It is in this context that the Government of the Republic of Congo organizes a forum on financing agriculture –GrowCongo! Invest in Agriculture, supported by the World Bank and IFAD, on the 25th of February 2020, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The AfDB, the European Union, FAO, WFP, AFD, JICA, the Kuwait Fund, and other bilateral and multilateral partners have shown their support for the successful completion of this Forum.

At the same time, the increasingly active private sector, with the emergence of national investors and the involvement of a few foreign investors in all agricultural sub-sectors, gives hope for a brighter future.

To support the efforts of PND 2018-2022, the National Forum on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries was organized in 2018 to strengthen the institutional, legal and organizational framework of the agricultural sector through the adoption of a new agropastoral and fisheries policy and draft laws regulating the agriculture, livestock and fisheries sectors, setting up two advisory support agencies. These reforms will help create an attractive business climate for investment in the agriculture, livestock and fisheries sectors.

For this purpose, the GrowCongo! Invest in Agriculture Forum offers public and private investors, as well as agropastoral and fishery stakeholders from around the world, several business opportunities to seize in order to build win-win partnerships.
We invite you to join us.

Mr. Henri Djombo
Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Republic of Congo
